Blog Assignment Post #1 dsaba

1)                  When I was six I lived in Newport News Virginia, in a small culdisact. Two defining moments of my young life with technology were by far my experience with a corded phone and the television. In today’s society the thought of a phone with a cord is considered to be almost “taboo.” In 1999 corded phones were the thing to have, especially if you had a cord that went out and wound itself back up. I would love calling family back in Pittsburgh while running around the kitchen; meanwhile my grandparents were still on a phone with a short cord and a phone you had to “spin” for each number. During this time in my life I had an amazing 16 inch bubble screen TV. Much different than the LCD’s of today, this small TV, made life for me and my parents so much easier on long trips. My dad would use this self-made stand to hold the TV up in the car, and would wedge the TV between the driver and passenger seat. Instead of hearing a six year old and a three year old ask to get out of the car every five minutes or hear “are we there yet?’’ my parents would be able to hold a conversation with each other. It made a potentially boring eight hour trip into a much more pleasant one. It was like the flip down TV’s that you see in today’s cars.
2)                  The few I read all seemed to be written by computer savvy people. I admit that I am not. All of them though seem to say that technology has greatly impacted their lives which I can 100% support.
3)                  To be digitally literate just means you understand the technology around us. I am literate but that doesn’t mean I have to be an English scholar.  You have to be able to get from point a to point b but not necessarily in the fastest way.
4)                  To back up my statement I would use examples of how my grandparents always ask me to help wit there technological problems. Buying paper view, sending emails, and programing garage remotes. Even though to them I am very good with that kind of stuff im the same person who couldn’t figure out how to use Pandora on his phone, or install Microsoft word onto his laptop. I am computer literate but no where close to being an epert. I just no the basics.
